DIRECTIONS SUMMER 1999
Making the right moves! - Lafarge Directions Summer 1999 Making the right moves! - Lafarge Directions Summer 1999 Page 3

No need telling Charlie Poandl that the Lord moves in mysterious ways; he already knows.

Charlie, Logistics Manager at Lafarge Gypsum, was wondering how to reach Habitat for Humanity, to communicate the decision to offer free wallboard, when his phone rang. It was Don Smith, Manager of Surface Transportation for the Cement Group in Southfield, who had chosen the same moment to see if Lafarge would be willing to help the Richmond County (VA) arm of Habitat. Don’s father, John T. Smith, a Baptist minister, founded and heads up the organization.

“It really makes you wonder,” said Charlie. “Because if it was purely a coincidence, it was one heck of a coincidence.”
