Letter from the Chief Executive Officer

Naming a new company is a little like naming a new child: The result is the most gratifying when it honors the past and the future in approximately equal measures.

After a long and thoughtful process, we selected the name Highmark to represent the exciting entity resulting from the consolidation of Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield; two of the nation’s most respected health care coverage firms.

As I see it, Highmark is not so much a thing as it is an outlook. It is the point of view that comes from sixty years of innovation, dedication and service.
It is the vision that sets a true course for a long and challenging journey.
