to end, but here comes the homework assignment.

Foreign-language classes weren’t a great deal of fun for many high schoolers. Facing rigid courses of study geared to the requirements of standardized tests instead of real-world applicability, it was hard to get psyched up about going to class.

Norma Ellis has changed all that. Mme. Ellis, Lafarge North America’s French-language instructor, goes to great lengths to make her classes enjoyable as well as effective. “With all of the other demands on their time, people won’t come to class if they’re not challenged and involved. I work very hard to create ideas that make it fun."
